Share a story about the furthest you’ve ever traveled from home.
The furthest away from home I have ever been was during a research trip to the Bahamas.
Being from the UK that is quite far away…
Imagine this, after a 4 hour coach trip, 11 hour flight , a second 1 hour flight and 2 hour journey on the back of a van you arrive at San Salvador Gerace research centre located on San Salvador island, Bahamas.

Proceeding a much needed night of rest you wake up bright and early the next day to get ready for your first day of data collection.
So it’s back to the van to be driven to the most beautiful place you have ever seen…

A completely empty beach, up to this point the only people you have seen on this island are the people you travelled with… it’s like we have the whole island to ourself, a rare experience.
So you start snorkelling and what you see below the surface is even more beautiful than above.

And your job is to explore and collect data. Data collection consisted of snorkelling all day, photographing coral and algae and recording certain fish species size and number.

Never have a felt so lucky and grateful to be studying biology…
